Why Tinubu Should Not Reappoint MDs Of NPA, NIMASA – APC Chieftain

APC Chieftain, Dr. Darus Gololo has urged President Bola Tinubu not to reappoint the Managing Directors of Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) after the expiration of their tenure in office.

Speaking to newsmen at a press conference on Friday in Abuja, Gololo lamented that extension of tenures of Ministers and other government appointees was part of the factors that led to the failure of previous administrations in Nigeria.

This is coming on the heels of the recent appointment of six executive directors in the aforementioned agencies.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, appointed six new executive directors in the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency. Both agencies are under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy

At the NPA, Tinubu appointed Vivian Edet as Executive Director, Finance and Administration; Olalekan Badmus as Executive Director, Marine and Operations and Ibrahim Umar as Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services.

At NIMASA, he appointed Jibril Abba Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services; Mr. Chudi Offodile Executive Director, Finance and Administration and Fatai Adeyemi Executive Director, Operations.

Gololo therefore stressed that the Managing Directors of NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko, and NIMASA, Bashir Jamoh should not be retained in office after the expiration of their tenure.

He said,”My message to Mr President is that Mr Jamoh and Koko should go because it is not a heritage. By right after your tenure you have to go so that another person can come. Extension is what make us to be corrupt anywhere in government. Anywhere you are when your tenure expires you have to go so that another person can come. The more you remain there, the more we have corruption.

“Thank God that I have seen this young man, he want to do his job in EFCC, he shouldn’t fear any face. Any person who is holding our money, pls, let him bring the person to book. So Jamoh and Koko should go.

“Koko was brought in as acting MD, so by right he is suppose to act for 6 months after that they appoint him as the MD. But hence he has acted for almost 5 years, he has to go. Those cabal who are planning to bring them back, we will not agree.

“I want to call on the President, I Gololo will not agree, let them bring new face to that area. As they brought the new directors let them also bring new MDs for NPA and NIMASA, those people we will not retain them.

“There are many people who are very good in that area, why must you extend somebody’s stay after finishing their tenure. That extension made other governments fail.”
