Abuja, Nigeria – The China Cultural Center in Abuja hosted the highly anticipated final of the Energy China-Nigeria Dance Competition today, drawing a crowd of dance enthusiasts and dignitaries from both China and Nigeria.
Li Xuda, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and Director of China Cultural Center in Nigeria (CCCNIG), praised Nigeria’s vibrant cultural heritage, stating, “Nigeria is a land of rich and colorful cultural heritage… every Nigerian person, male or female, young or old, rich or poor, could dance very well, they definitely enjoy dancing and dance really became part of their life.”
In his opening remarks, the Managing Director of Energy China in Nigeria, Li Baisheng expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese Embassy, China Cultural Center, and other supporters, emphasizing the company’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
“As we gather today to witness this exciting moment, we are reminded that culture is the bridge between souls. Dance, in particular, has the power to transcend language barriers and touch our hearts,” the representative said. “This competition symbolizes the friendship between China and Nigeria and testifies to our cultural exchange. We believe that through such events, we can deepen our understanding and friendship, promoting cooperation and development in culture and beyond.”
The Permanent Secretary, James Sule, represented the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, and delivered a keynote address highlighting the significance of cultural exchange between Nigeria and China. Sule expressed appreciation to the Ambassador of China, Cui Jianchun, for his commitment to strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
The competition aimed to create a platform for Chinese and Nigerian dance enthusiasts to learn from each other and improve their skills together. Li Xuda expressed gratitude to China Energy International Group Co., Ltd. (CEIG) for their efforts in making the event possible and thanked the talented dancers for their outstanding performances.
The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy, CCCNIG, and China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, and is expected to become an annual event, further strengthening cultural ties between China and Nigeria.
Winners of the competition include Wang Ao, Wu Jiacheng, and Energy China Team in the Chinese category, and Drum Major for Peace, Firm step Dance Crew, Adexy Joe, and Joswph Uhiene in the Nigerian category. Ai Le Yong-Dong Meu won the Best Popularity award, while Sinoma Nigeria Limited won the Best Collaboration award, and Chi Si Hea won the Best Creativity award.
The competition symbolizes the friendship between China and Nigeria and testifies to their cultural exchange. As Li Xuda said, “The success of this competition is a testament to the power of dance to bring people together and transcend cultural boundaries.”
