Abuja – A witness to the release of Engineer Achema has urged the public to treat social media commentary on the case with caution, warning that much of the content circulating online is based on incomplete or unverified information.
Omale Thomas Ocholi PhD, who said he was present during key events, released a statement clarifying the timeline of Eng. Achema’s detention and calling for evidence-based public discourse.
“By God’s grace, the truth about Eng. Achema will eventually prevail over speculation and misinformation,” Dr. Ocholi said. “Many of the write-ups and videos currently circulating on social media are based on incomplete or unverified information.”
Dr. Ocholi stated that he was one of two individuals to whom Eng. Achema was released by the Police Deputy Inspector General, Force Intelligence Department, at the Force Headquarters in Area 11, Garki, Abuja, on Friday, 13 March 2026. He added that Eng. Achema was subsequently intercepted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Sunday, 15 March 2026, “based on some reports by some individuals.”
“Most of today’s social media content creators were not present during these events. For that reason, I encourage the public to approach online commentary with caution and avoid accepting every post or video as fact,” he said.
The witness emphasized the complexity of legal and investigative processes, noting that they “are often more complex than they appear on social media and deserve careful, informed discussion rather than trial by public opinion.” He added: “A society that values accuracy and accountability should also expect higher standards from those who publish information for public consumption.”
For the record, Dr. Ocholi provided a custody timeline: “He was in Police custody from 13 February to 13 March 2026, a total of 29 days. He has been in EFCC custody from 15 March 2026 to today, 22 June 2026, a total of 99 days. 29+99=128 days in detention.”
He appealed for restraint in online discussions about the case. “Please, let us stop creating or sharing content on matters we do not fully understand. It could be anyone in such a situation tomorrow,” Dr. Ocholi said.
Speaking to Eng. Achema’s character, he added: “Achema was a first class student of Engineering with swift IQ, it’s difficult to deceive him on so many matters unless, you’ve not had opportunity of being around him.”
The statement comes amid growing social media discussion about Eng. Achema’s case, with various accounts sharing differing versions of events. Authorities have not released further public updates on the matter as of 22 June 2026.
