A construction worker lost his life on Friday after falling from the upper level of a multi-storey building under construction at the Ibom Tropicana Hotel project in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The deceased, said to be employed by Ratcom Construction Company as a fire sprinkler installer, reportedly plunged from the 13th floor of the structure, dying instantly from the impact.
Sources at the construction site said the worker had earlier carried out routine measurements for a team under his supervision before heading to the top floor of the building. The circumstances that led to his fall remain unclear.
An eyewitness who was working nearby recalled hearing a loud sound before discovering the victim lying on the ground with severe injuries.
Another site worker said he was outside the building when he noticed panic among colleagues and rushed to the scene, where he found the victim lifeless.
According to workers at the site, the victim suffered multiple fractures and severe head injuries. His remains were later evacuated to a mortuary in Uyo.
The tragic incident has left fellow workers and residents around the area shocked and grieving.
When contacted, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, said he had not yet received a formal report on the incident but assured that an investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fatal fall.
