Works Ministry Inaugurates New Sports Club Executives

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Works has officially inaugurated a new set of elected executives for its sports club, a statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, the Director, Press and Public Relations has disclosed.

Minister of Works Engr David Umahi, who was represented by the Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, commended the outgoing executives for their dedication.

On the other hand, he expressed confidence in the inaugurated leaders’ ability to further the ministry’s mission through active engagement in sporting activities within the civil service and the public service at large.

Goronyo emphasised the importance of sports in the well-being of staff, noting that it extends beyond mere recreation.

According to him, sports also foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and improved well-being among the Ministry’s staff.

Furthermore, the Minister announced that, as the second grand patron of the ministry’s sports club, he should be considered an official member of the club.

In his remarks, the Director of Human Resources, Aliyu Abdullahi, who represented the Permanent Secretary, applauded the management’s commitment to staff welfare, unity, and sports development, encouraging staff members to actively participate in sporting activities for their benefit.

The National President of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA), Comrade Aluko Amoebi, commended the ministry’s dedication to staff welfare, unity, and the promotion of sports, promising encouragement and cooperation.

The event also included the presentation of prestigious awards, recognising the outstanding contributions of individuals and teams in promoting sports and community service within the ministry. The awardees were praised for their commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Additionally, a sensitisation session was held to educate staff members on the significance of sports in enhancing productivity and fostering national unity through the public S
service games, monthly jogging, aerobics sessions, and other related activities.

The event held on Wednesday, 7th May 2025 at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja was well attended by senior management staff and others from the ministry, as well as a host of guests.
