X Ends Revenue Sharing, Launches Original Content Rewards

By Torkuma Gbor

X, formerly Twitter, has officially retired its Creator Revenue Sharing programme and begun rolling out its new Original Content Rewards programme, changing how creators can earn money on the platform.
‎
‎The Revenue Sharing programme officially ended on September 7, 2026, after X stopped accepting new participants on August 7. Existing participants continued earning under the old scheme through the September 7 deadline, with a final payout for earnings accrued up to that date expected around September 11.
‎
‎Beginning September 8, existing Revenue Sharing participants started gaining access to apply for the Original Content Rewards programme through Creator Studio, subject to meeting the new eligibility requirements.
‎
‎Under the new programme, X says creators will be rewarded based on qualified impressions generated by their original content. Eligible content can include posts, articles, photographs, videos, graphics and commentary that reflect the creator’s own ideas, expertise or creativity.
‎
‎X has also introduced stricter rules against content that is copied, minimally modified, aggregated or simply reposted from other platforms. Content that adds meaningful analysis, commentary or context can qualify as original, while posts that primarily rely on someone else’s work without substantial transformation will not be eligible for rewards.
‎
‎To qualify, creators must be at least 18 years old, have an account in good standing, maintain an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, have at least 500 verified followers and record at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the previous 90 days.
‎
‎Nigeria is among the countries where the Original Content Rewards programme is available, meaning eligible Nigerian creators can also apply.
‎
‎X said qualified impressions are unique impressions generated by Premium users on the Home Timeline when at least 50 per cent of a post is visible. Paid, promoted, artificial and fraudulent impressions are excluded from the calculation.
‎
‎The company will process payments every two weeks, with a minimum payout of $30. For creators outside the United States, X says payments will be made through a connected Stripe account after identity verification.
‎
‎The transition represents a shift in X’s monetisation strategy from its previous revenue-sharing model towards rewarding creators for producing original material and contributing meaningful content to conversations on the platform.
‎
‎Creators who have already completed identity verification and connected a valid payout method will not need to repeat those steps when applying for the new programme, according to X.
