The Yobe State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with drug-related offences and armed robbery incidents recorded in parts of Fika and Damaturu Local Government Areas.
The Command said the operation is part of its sustained crackdown on criminal activities across all 17 LGAs of the state aimed at strengthening public safety and order.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command said it had recorded notable progress in its fight against organised crime, drug trafficking, youth unrest, and substance abuse.
He disclosed that on May 29, 2026, operatives of B Division, Damaturu, carried out a coordinated raid at Pompomari Kan Tudu, leading to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers.
The suspects were identified as Jibrin Mohammed, 30, and Kashim Kyari, 22, both residents of the Pompomari area in Damaturu metropolis.
Items recovered from them included 26 sachets of Tramadol, 23 sachets of Diazepam, two wraps of cannabis (Arizona), 34 additional wraps of local cannabis, four stones of crystal methamphetamine, an 11-inch dagger, a pair of scissors, and ₦91,950 in cash.
The police said the suspects are currently under investigation and will be prosecuted upon completion of inquiries.
In a separate development, on the same day around 3:00 pm, the Divisional Police Headquarters in Fika received a distress call reporting that a group of youths had stormed Ngalda Market, causing disorder and engaging in robbery activities.
Police patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene, where seven suspects were arrested.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly operated in a group, harassing teenage girls without provocation and creating panic among traders and residents.
The situation reportedly led to traders fleeing the market, while goods were looted and vandalised using sticks and cutlasses.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other fleeing suspects linked to the attack.
Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reiterated the Command’s firm stance against youth violence, drug abuse, and all forms of criminal conduct, directing officers to maintain professionalism and sustain peace across the state.
