The Chairman of the Elections Petition Tribunal in Cross River State, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi has assured litigants of fair and accelerated hearing to guarantee prompt dispensation of justice.
Justice Adeniyi, who gave the assurance in Calabar today, during the inaugural sitting of the Tribunal said “We are poised to discharge our duties to the best of our abilities and always remain mindful of the oath we took”
” We assure all litigants of a fair trial and we will not entertain any form of interference from any quarter and will not hesitate to report any attempt to interfere with the Tribunal to the security agencies” he posited.
According to him “we are conscious of time, the Tribunal is not a battleground and we shall proceed seamlessly and without delay, we, therefore solicit for cooperation of the bar and the bench in the discharge of their assignment to guarantee smooth process”.
Speaking, a member of the inner bar Murtala Abdul, SAN, tasked the Tribunal to rise above the board, given the interest of the public and the International community.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Calabar Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Barrister Attah Ochinke assured that his members will demonstrate utmost professional candour at the proceedings while leaving no stone unturned to assist the Tribunal to achieve the set target
SUMMIT POST recalled that the commencement of the Tribunal was earlier stalled by the ongoing industrial action, embarked upon by the State branch of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN
