LG Unveils Solar Borehole, Free Laundry in Abia Community

In a transformative step for grassroots empowerment, LG Electronics has unveiled a solar-powered borehole and a free mobile laundry service in Osusu-Amankwa, Aba, Abia State. This marks the second Eastern Nigerian community to benefit from LG’s clean energy and social impact initiatives in just a week, reaffirming the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation that directly uplifts lives.

The commissioning ceremony drew community leaders, residents, and corporate partners together in a moment that symbolized hope and progress. At the heart of the project is a solar-powered borehole, designed to provide continuous access to safe and clean water, independent of the unreliable local grid. Complementing this is a solar-powered mobile laundry unit, offering free laundry services to residents and lifting a major burden for families and underserved groups.

Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics, described the project as a blueprint for people-centered development. “At LG, we believe true progress happens when technology responds to real needs. By harnessing clean energy, we are not just providing infrastructure, we are restoring dignity, health, and hope to communities. This project is a testament to our commitment to sustainable solutions that empower people today and safeguard the environment for generations to come.”

Her Royal Majesty Ugoeze Esther Adanma Ikonne, Autonomous Wife and Leader of the Osusu-Amankwa community, noted the ripple effect of the intervention: “For years, our people have struggled for something as basic as clean water. Today, thanks to LG’s vision and partnership, our children will grow up healthier, our women will spend less time fetching water, and every family will feel the impact. This is what true community transformation looks like.”

Chief Ajuba Amaechi, an Autonomous Community Chief, emphasized the project’s significance for long-term resilience. “This is more than a gift, it is a foundation for a better future. LG’s investment shows what can be accomplished when business and communities work hand in hand. We are deeply grateful for this model of inclusive progress.”

With so much excitement, a community dweller; Mrs. Ngozi Eze, who has witnessed firsthand the daily struggle for clean water, shared her relief: “We’ve lost count of how many times we walked long distances just to get water, or worried about our children falling sick. Now, with this borehole and the free laundry, life will be easier and safer for everyone. I can’t thank LG enough for remembering the ordinary people.”

This latest intervention follows LG’s recent solar-powered borehole project in Owerri, highlighting a deliberate, scalable approach to community upliftment. By combining speed, relevance, and a focus on long-term sustainability, LG’s clean energy initiatives are reshaping the narrative of what is possible in grassroots development.

The Aba project reflects LG’s global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework, placing responsible innovation, shared value creation, and social inclusion at the core of its business. From supporting essential resources to promoting environmental stewardship, LG is demonstrating how global sustainability priorities can be translated into tangible, local impact.

Residents and leaders alike hailed the initiative as a catalyst for healthier, more dignified living, underscoring the importance of public-private collaboration in driving real change.
