The Rivers State Government has commissioned newly completed Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Elimgbu, Port Harcourt, as part of efforts to strengthen public service delivery through improved welfare and productivity of senior civil servants.
The project was inaugurated by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who cut the tape at the commissioning ceremony.
Speaking at the event, the state government said the housing project would provide decent and secure accommodation for permanent secretaries, thereby enhancing efficiency, professionalism and stability within the public service.
Beneficiaries were urged to protect and properly maintain the facilities, while the Head of Service of the state was directed to ensure effective management of the quarters through the appointment of a facility manager. The government also disclosed plans to extend similar housing support to other cadres in the civil service.
The significance of the project was further underscored by the presence of members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, which the state government described as a reflection of continued appreciation for the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Earlier, the state hosted a federal government delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. At the meeting, the government commended the President’s efforts in addressing long-standing challenges in Ogoniland, particularly the inclusion of Ogoni sons and daughters in national institutions and plans to rehabilitate ageing oil facilities in the area.
The commissioning of the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters is expected to boost morale among senior civil servants and contribute to improved service delivery in Rivers State.
